2014 4Runner From Toyota Changes Include Transformer-Like Redesign

The 2014 4Runner from Toyota is undergoing a lot of changes, including some controversial ones to its exterior design.

Overall, the 2014 4Runner sports a blockier, chunkier look. Angry eye-shaped headlights lend the vehicle a distinctive Transformer-like appearance. Also included are updated trim and a new front bumper.

"For nearly three decades, the Toyota 4Runner mid-size SUV has been a stalwart for off-roading enthusiasts seeking a SUV with rugged, go-anywhere capability," Toyota stated in a press release. "Currently in its fifth-generation, 4Runner continues as one of the few fully capable mid-size SUVs, and the redesigned 2014 4Runner receives a rugged new exterior design, and interior refinements that add comfort and convenience without sacrificing its hallmark performance capability and excellent value."

Inside the 2014 4Runner is a 270-horsepower 4.0-liter V6 engine with 278 pound-feet of torque. The 2014 4Runner has gas shocks, independent front and four-link rear suspension and a full frame to sustain its off-road prowess. Available trims for the 2014 4Runner are Trail, SR5 and Limited.

On the inside, Toyota has added some nice touches to the 2014 4Runner. The Limited version can be ordered with a third row and features standard front power seats. Meanwhile, the SR5s have a power driver's seat standard and Optitron gauges.

While the Toyota 2014 4Runner may sort of look like a robot bulldog, the other improvements are certainly a welcome addition. No price has been announced yet, but expect that announcement to arrive closer to the on-sale date late in the summer. The 2013 version starts at $32,335.
