NBC fantasy series "Emerald City" might be canceled primarily due to low ratings. The season 1 finale is scheduled to air next week with the big battle in "Emerald City." With its current statistics, it would take a miracle for the network to order "Emerald City" season 2.
The series started with ratings of 4.485 million viewers in the US and 1.00 demo. However, the statistics went downhill from that starting on the third episode. There was a slight increase in episode 8 from 2.344 million viewers to 2.474 million viewers, however, episode 9 took another plunge. The series has average ratings of 3.040 million viewers and 0.72 demos, excluding the finale.
Unfortunately, this is not enough for a series to stay afloat. The ratings for the 18-49 years old demographics specifically is too small for the series to continue, not to mention, production for fantasy series like this is very costly. Several cancellation predictor tables revealed "Emerald City" season 2 is in danger of cancellation.
The series is set to end this week. The official synopsis for "Emerald City" season 1, episode 10 via Spoiler TV revealed that Dorothy (Adria Arjona) will have another face off with the Wizard (Vincent D'Onofrio) to save Oz, however, this time, she is confident she will win. Tip (Jordan Laughran) and West (Ana Ularu) are arriving at Emerald City to take revenge while Glinda (Joely Richardson) will head to the battlefield bring her power. Stefanie Martini is guesting as the Queen of Ev.
The series follows the story of 20-year-old Dorothy Gale, who was transported from Lucas, Kansas to the Land of Oz due to a tornado. "Emerald City" season 1, episode 10 will air on Friday, March 3, at 9 p.m. ET on the NBC Television Network. The ratings of the finale might also affect the fate of "Emerald City" season 2.
