As per a report by Shams Charania Of The Vertical, the Thunder have agreed to a contract with Norris Cole. The agreement bound to run most likely through the end of the 2016-2017 season as they are desperately in need of a veteran to back up Russell Westbrook.
Cole Is Ready For Some NBA Action
The 28-year-old will return to the NBA after starting Shandong Golden Stars in the Chinese Basketball Association season and failing to attract interest in free agency this summer. Chinese team Shandong releases him in early December, and many believed that he would have already signed with an NBA team by now.
After trading the team's backup point guard Cameron Payne to the Chicago Bulls, the Thunder were hunting for point guard role. Cole will fit in the gap left by Payne and will be in control for the team's gameplay and calls.
Little Background
Norris Gene Cole II is an American professional basketball player who was last seen playing for the Shandong Golden Stars of the Chinese Basketball Association. Adding Cole to the team could be beneficial for the Thunders to amplify strategy, support, and playmaker. Over his six-year NBA career, Cole has played for the Miami Heat and the New Orleans Pelicans, winning two championships during his time with the Miami Heat.
In his 347 in-game career, Cole has averaged 7.1 points-per-game while shooting over 40 percent from the field. These statistics could provide another scoring opportunity for the Thunder's second unit.
Thunders' vs Jazz
The Thunder is preparing for tonight's action 7 p.m. Tuesday for a matchup with the Utah Jazz at Chesapeake Energy Arena. Oklahoma City enters the game with a 34-25 record, which is partially good for seventh in the Western Conference. However, it is uncertain now whether Cole will be present for tonight's game.
