"The Curse of Oak Island" wrapped up its fourth season last week which set a series record for earning the highest viewership rating. The treasure hunting show's fifth installment though is still up in the air as the Lagina brothers failed to solve the mystery of the Oak Island despite their solid vow to finish the hunt once and for all. Creator Kevin Burns is also less optimistic about the show's future as he revealed his thoughts about doing another season.
"The Curse of Oak Island" season 4 has recorded both its series high and lows. The show has lost a significant amount of viewers when the show has reportedly aired redundant scenes in most of the episodes. However, the series' season 4 finale got 3.8 million people tuned in to see if Money Pits has the iconic pirate treasure that Rick and Marty Lagina are looking for.
Unfortunately, the installment ended with the treasure still buried, and the curse still unresolved. Following this letdown, a fifth season is reportedly looking impossible. Although the Lagina brothers have already announced their search for another investor for their treasure hunt, indications are still solid that the show might no longer be renewed for season 5.
The brothers who were initially very positive in finding the treasure already seem to have doubts about continuing their hunt. One of the show's creators, Burns, also seems less optimistic about winning a renewal for "The Curse of Oak Island." Burns has recently revealed in an interview that the show has no been renewed yet, and it looks like the show is not coming back on History anytime soon.
"We are not set to come back for another year, take of that what you will," Burns said in his recent interview. He has however left something that the fans, the network, and the investors to ponder on as he seems to believe the authenticity of the island's mystery. I think you could do 10 years on this show and you could find lots of things and lots of treasure, and I would still not be convinced that's all there is to the story. I think Oak Island has many, many, many stories to tell," he explained.
Should the series be renewed, the team might still have to find a new investor as Nova Scotia Business Inc. has not shown an interest in continuing to finance the treasure hunt. For now, History also remains tight-lipped about "The Curse of the Oak Island."
