New AMD Ryzen Benchmark Leak Reveals Strong Performance

AMD's Ryzen CPUs will be available for retail today, on Mar. 2. Meanwhile, the latest benchmark leak shows that Ryzen 7 1700X is dominating Intel for a lower price.

New AMD Ryzen Leaked Benchmark Results

The Ryzen 7 1700X is already up for pre-order at $399 and due to go on sale this week. The Chinese PCEVA forum published some benchmark results, comparing the 1700X against the Core i7-6800K. Intel's 6-core CPU for the X99 chipset platform has the same price tag as the upcoming AMD Ryzen 7 1700X.

According to Forbes, the benchmark is a clock-for-clock comparison. The clock speed of the Ryzen CPU has been reduced, in order to match the clock speed offered by Intel 6800K. The many benchmarks on the long list show that AMD's processor is clearly the winner.

In terms of the power consumption figures, it appears that AMD has a very efficient CPU. The benchmark results show a gaming power consumption that is over 25 percent less than the Intel CPU. Other interesting results are found on Cinebench benchmark in multi-threaded mode.

Despite costing the same as the Intel CPU, the Ryzen 7 1700X's four additional threads and two additional cores helped it to a massive lead. In Sid Meier's Civilization VI, the benchmark results also show that the AMD CPU has decent leads. Overall, AMD matches or betters the similarly-priced Intel CPU.

Intel Threatened By Upcoming AMD Ryzen CPUs

According to PC World, Ryzen APUs actually resemble a system-on-a-chip design more than a traditional CPU. AMD's processors come with integrated support for many interfaces on-chip, including PCI-E, NVMe, USB, and SATA. On top of that, the different AM4 motherboard chipsets build additional capabilities.

It appears that Intel is forced to drop prices in order to compete with AMD's Ryzen. The last few days, this story has been all over social media. Amazon has reduced its price for Intel's Core i7-7700K CPU down to $339. Microcenter is even offering Intel's Core i7-7700K at just $299, $80 less than most other stores.
