Overwatch principal designer, Geoff Goodman, reveals why Blizzard decided to literally nerf D.Va as she has been a rather fluctuating character in the meta. Similarly, he also hints at another mech riding hero that might be a DPS character.
D.Va's spot in the game has been strange lately as she went from being nearly unplayable to overly unstoppable. In line with this, some fans were not too pleased after Blizzard decided to nerf her, switching her health and armor around to make her more vulnerable. These players have gotten accustomed to playing her as someone who would easily dive in and out of the battlefield as they knew she could survive an onslaught of attacks.
Overwatch Principal Designer Shares Thoughts On D.Va
According to PVP Live, Goodman is aware that people loved her "bully" playstyle and want that version of her back. However, he claimed that she was just too good at everything and had very little room for weakness. In line with this, she felt a bit too much like a DPS hero rather than a tank as she was great at harassing enemies and planting her mech bombs around the battlefield.
Because of this, fans had suggested that they remove her Defense Matrix for her whopping 400 armor but Goodman simply claimed that D.Va was not built for that certain playstyle. Instead, he noted that people are fond of the idea of having that certain type of hero and that gives the team a chance to make one. For this reason, he and the team might take something from that D.Va experience and use it to create a new mech-type DPS hero.
Bastion Gets Nerfed Following Recent Changes
Incidentally, GameSpot reports that Bastion is already getting some nerfs on the latest Public Test Region (PTR) patch. The omnic was recently given a slew of buffs to make up for its lack of popularity over the past few months. However, it seems like these changes might have been a bit too much as many fans have been complaining about how broken it is.
Bastion's passive ability, Ironclad, now reduces damage taken by 20 percent instead of the initial 35. However, this may not be the only nerf the omnic will be getting judging by how quickly Blizzard decided to scale down the character. Fans can play Overwatch on the PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
