Nexus 5, Nexus 8 And Nexus 11 Renders Show Off New Design

The rumor mill has been working overtime now that Google is prepping to launch a line-up of new Nexus devices, which include the Nexus 5 (follow-up to Nexus 4) smartphone, Nexus 8 and Nexus 11 tablets. Now renders of the smartphone and tablet, believed to be in the works, have popped up online and give us a peek into the new Nexus designs.

The renders are courtesy of Bob Freking, who has come up with concept designs for the Nexus devices, giving us a glimpse of what they could eventually look like.

We take a look at the three concepts Freking has come up with for the impending devices.

"Following the 5-inch trend, here's the LG Nexus 5. To compete with the iPad Mini even further, here's the Asus Nexus 8. And finally, following the same rumors, the Nexus 11 from Samsung," notes BF Concepts, the designer's official website.

Nexus 5

The Nexus 5, as imagined by Freking, sports a new look with a textured white rear, in place of the breakable glass back of the Nexus 4. The render imagines the Nexus 5 featuring a 5-inch 1080P HD display, putting the smartphone in the same league as the recently released Samsung Galaxy S4. Freking also imagines a 1.9GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor powering the handset, which the second-gen Nexus 7 is rumored to house. The concept also shows off a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2-megapixel secondary one.

The Nexus 5 will have the latest version of Android and the 16GB variant is conjectured to sport a $99 price tag.

Nexus 8

While rumors of the successor to the Nexus 7, dubbed Nexus 7.7, have been doing the rounds, Freking's take on an 8-inch tablet is aimed at taking on the iPad mini head on. The Nexus 8's concept shows off an 8-inch screen with a high-resolution IPS LCD screen (1920 x 1200). The tablet appears to tout a matte black rear and has a 3-megapixel rear-facing camera.

The mock-up's specs reveal a Snapdragon 600 processor clocked at 1.7GHz, which is similar to the one on the HTC One. The Nexus 8, per Freking, will run on the latest version of Android and will be priced at $199 for the 8GB variant.

Nexus 11

Rumors are rife that Samsung is on track to replace its Nexus 10 for Google with the Nexus 11 sometime this year. Considering, Google announced the Nexus 10 at a special event in late 2012, it is unlikely that the Nexus 11 will debut alongside the Nexus 7.7 at the Google I/O on May 15.

Freking's concept shows off a Super PLS Display on the 11-inch tablet (1600 x 2560 pixels). The Nexus 11 packs in the Nvidia Tegra 4 processor introduced at CES 2013 in January. The device also touts a 5-megapixel and 2-megapixel primary and secondary cameras, respectively. The 16GB variant is priced at $399.
