'Iron Man 4' Release Date: Why Shane Black Is Excited & 'Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.' First Look (Video) [UPDATED]

Iron Man 3 marked the end to the trilogy that launched the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, but is there a chance we might see Robert Downey Jr. return for an Iron Man 4? Possibly.

Marvel chief Kevin Feige has already confirmed that Avengers 2 has a slated release date on May 1, 2015 and that Iron Man will be returning, but what about a standalone Iron Man 4 film?

Shane Black, director of Iron Man 3 had some encouraging comments on the possibility of a fourth installment in an interview with French magazine, Premiere:

"There has been a lot of discussion about it: 'Is this the last Iron Man for Robert?' Something tells me that it will not be the case, and will be seen in a fourth, or fifth ... But I can be a little excited...

"It is always complicated to deal with a third part. Your job is first to answer this question: what remains to tell this story? The challenge is that your film is not just a new episode of the adventures of Iron Man, but the continuation of something, a new chapter had to be told. This is the problem that I had felt with Lethal Weapon 3 and 4. Happened in the fourth, one felt they had nothing to tell. The film was more like an episode of TV series. I have the feeling that the story that we have developed for Iron Man 3 actually concluded a trilogy. While leaving the door open to a fourth..."

In other Marvel news, ABC will be giving viewers a first look at Agents of SHIELD on Sunday during the season finale of Once Upon a Time. For those not in the know, Agents of SHIELD is Marvel's small-screen project that stars none other than Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson. It'll be interesting to see how the show gets around Coulson having been impaled to death by Loki in Avengers.
