The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Director Reveals Why The Classic Items Are Not In The Game

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild removed a lot of old elements in order to bring in something fresh to the series. However, game developer Hidemaro Fujibayashi revealed that some of Link's old equipment, like the Hookshot, were tested in the game.

Iconic Items Tested During Development

The latest Zelda installment brought in a lot of new features like shield surfing and paragliding, which revitalized the often overused tropes in the series. However, it seems like things were not always this way during creation. According to My Nintendo News (blog), Fujibayashi revealed that they had tested out familiar weapons like the Hookshot and the Beetle item from Skyward Sword during the early days of development.

Back then, they tried doing the original method where players would find items in dungeons before trying the Link Between Worlds wherein they felt that it was still limiting. They had done a lot of experimentation and testing before pulling out all the unnecessary items that would detract from the current gameplay. With this in mind, only four staple series items made it to The Breath of the Wild.

Recreate Link's Original Clothes In The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

Other iconic materials seemingly absent in the latest installment are Link's green clothes that he wears in every game. However, Polygon reports that it is actually possible to recreate his familiar garbs complete with the hat and boots. In order to get The Tunic of the Wild, players have to complete all 120 shrine challenges.

On the other hand, players can opt for a more modern version by unlocking the items via amiibo that spawns treasure chests in-game. Specifically, the e8-Bit Link amiibo nets players the old-school Armor of the Hero Outfit while the Ocarina of Time Link figurine gives players the Armor of Time. Finally, the Toon Link Amii, both the Smash Bros. and Wind Waker edition, give players the Armor of Wind.

Apart from this, there are other rumors claiming that other unreleased Zelda amiibos will unlock various armor from games like Twilight Princess and Majora's Mask. However, Nintendo has yet to confirm this as of now. Fans can play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Wii U and Nintendo Switch.
