Middle Earth: Shadow of War is the sequel to the game Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor that was released in 2014. Despite an original story inside Tolkien's world crafted for the game, the franchise stayed true and loyal to the lore even so far as to going up against Sauron and Nazgul.
Shadow Of War New And Improved Nemesis System
When Shadow of Mordor was released, not much were riding on their Nemesis System but it unexpectedly became the franchise's standout feature. The Nemesis System is an intricate system that brings depth to the world by being able to influence the enemies, as every encounter they have with the player can be remembered - right down to details like their battle scars. Basically, this System creates a living and breathing society of Orcs in the world - a society that can be influenced by the player in a way that they can make their own villains and ensures no multiple playthroughs are ever the same.
In Shadow Of War, players can now create an army of their own with Orcs to control. These Orcs are as unique as the outcome of the stories. GameSpot sat down with Micheal de Plater from Monolith Productions and they talked about Talion's new army. According to him, when one of the Orcs dies in battle the development team have always thought of creating new stories. He gave an example "...if we'd been attacking this fort and we'd been defeated, then our army that's with us out of that has a bunch of different outcomes that could happen. They could have been killed. If they're killed, maybe they'll cheat death and come back and they'll have a scar. If they come back, maybe they'll come back to us. Maybe they'll be annoyed and betray us. Maybe they'll be captured. If they're captured maybe they'll be scheduled for execution, or maybe they'll be in prison. Then we'll have rescue missions....We're always using the game systems to create these new stories and relationships that the Orcs can speak to and react to."
Shadow Of War And Orc Love
Kotaku also sat down with Monolith creative and Shadow of War developer VP Michael de Plater and asked the extremely important question. Will there be Orc romance in the game? Well, there's none, but as a response, Michael de Plater said making them as companions could be an indirect way of showing the player's love.
Middle Earth: Shadow of War will be available to PS4, Xbox One and PC. The game will launch on Aug. 25, 2017. An enhanced version will be available for the Xbox Scorpio when it releases this year.
