Samsung 5G Network Announced, But When Will It Launch?

We still don't know when the Samsung Galaxy S5 release date might be, but thanks to a recent announcement from the company, we have an idea what kind of data connection the Samsung Galaxy S9 might use, or whatever iteration we'll be on in 2020.

Samsung has announced that it is working on a 5G wireless network hundreds of times faster than current-generation systems. According to Samsung, the new 5G network will be capable of delivering "tens of Gbps" and has already succeeded in transferring data at 1 Gbps over a distance of 2 kilometers.

The new wireless technology utilizes 28 GHz ultra-high frequency bandwidths, which Samsung considers superior to the 6 GHz frequencies that other experimental 5G networks are testing on.

Samsung posted a photo on its website showing engineers working on the 5G network. In the center of the photo, "5G" can be clearly seen on a monitor, though little solid information can be culled from the image.

Don't expect to see a public release of company's 5G network any time soon - Samsung has said it is developing the technology with a 2020 rollout in mind. By the time we're able to connect to the 5G network, we'll likely be long done with the Samsung Galaxy S5 and using a Galaxy S9 or whatever it's called by that point.

You can check out the 5G announcement here on Samsung's Korean site, but it won't do you too much good unless you happen to read Korean. Besides Samsung Galaxy S5 speculation, the photo begs another salient question: how come Samsung offices are so drab?
