Since Pokemon GO went live summer of last year, the game has become an instant hit achieving milestone after milestone. Apparently, the augmented reality game from Niantic has declined during its run. Some players said that the game became too flat and boring due to lack of game modes. However, it seems like Niantic is ready to take another step to regain the game's popularity by slowly adding new contents that would please their players.
Recently, the company released the most-awaited Gen 2 patch, which brings 80 new Pokemon for players to catch. In addition, Niantic also hosted multiple seasonal events to keep players engaged by collecting several event exclusive Pokemon such as the new Party Hat Pikachu.
Meanwhile, Polygon states that during the interview at GDC 2017, Niantic's senior product manager Tatsuo Nomura admits that Pokemon GO's gym system still needs a lot of work. He also states that Niantic is trying to make bigger changes to the current system.
Based on the report, one possible way of improving the game's gym system is by harnessing its massively multiplayer online status. It was noted that there should be no non-playable characters and expect players to go against each other.
On the other hand, Niantic CEO John Hanke's interview with the German version of Wired, states that Pokemon GO gyms offer very limited gameplay and the developers plans on doing a rework on the elements of the game. As a result, it will provide more teamwork and active participation from the players, while having more rewards and incentives.
Though fans will be pleased to hear this upcoming update, however, it is still unclear if when will Niantic start to roll out gym updates for the game. Furthermore, Niantic also announced three major updates coming to Pokemon GO, which fans suspect Trading Feature as one of the three, as Game Rant reported.
Pokemon GO is now available on iOS and Android devices.
