Final Fantasy VII Remake To Allow Players To Use Other Characters?

Final Fantasy has always been one of the gaming world's best franchises. The innovative graphics and gameplay Square Enix infuses with each game, has propelled the franchise onto greater heights. Now that gaming consoles are gearing up to offer the best configuration and settings for games, Square Enix decided to do a Remake of Final Fantasy's most celebrated game, Final Fantasy VII.

Tetsuya Nomura On The Remake

According to Gamasutra, Tetsuya Nomura, Video Game Director at Square Enix, was interviewed by the Japanese Magazine, Famitsu about the screenshots he revealed at MAGIC 2017. Going into detail, Famitsu asked Nomura about the screenshot of the battle of Cloud and Barret against the Guard Scorpion Boss. "Rather than just ending it at that scaffold, we've made wide use of the space and developed a battle that takes advantage of the map's characteristics where you'll fight while switching between Cloud and Barret," said Nomura. "For example, when there's an enemy in a position that can't be reached by Cloud's sword, it's more effective to switch to Barret. It's becoming strategic in that way, as well," he added.

What This Means

GameRant says that in the original Final Fantasy VII game, players are only able to control each party member's moves in battles. So if the Final Fantasy VII Remake would indeed be implementing the system of switching characters in the middle of a battle, this would be a massive change for the franchise.

Although the battle system of Final Fantasy VII Remake is based on Final Fantasy XV's, there's still a big difference between the two. In Final Fantasy XV, players weren't able to swap characters in the middle of battle. They were just able to call for assists from the party, and even at that point, players are not able to control any of the member's from Noctis' party.

So if the Final Fantasy VII Remake would use this kind of system that allows players to switch characters in the middle of battle, this may prove to be a game changer and might excite players. However, the downside is that this move might upset traditionalists who want to keep Final Fantasy as a turn based game.

At this point, everything else is possible in the Final Fantasy VII Remake. However, one thing's for sure, with Tetsuya Nomura himself saying that players would be switching, there's a pretty big chance that this is already what Square Enix has implemented for the remake. On a positive note, one can still hope that company would include an option to turn the game into a turn-based one.
