Hold your horses there, folks, because it seems as though the until-now-incorporeal PS4 has just been revealed via a trailer that was spotted by a user on Reddit. Granted, with rumors and speculation surrounding the next-gen gaming console from Sony, this trailer/release may be totally bogus.
Then again, this trailer showing the PS4 for the first-time-ever may also be, well, the very first time ever that the PS4 has actually been shown.
Whether the trailer showing the PS4 is bona fide or not, it's a welcome reprieve from the otherwise almost total lack of anything real coming from Sony on the subject since officially announcing the console back in February, barring the company's strange fixation on the new DualShock 4 controller.
It was on Monday, May 13 that Reddit user moxmoxmox linked to a YouTube video that was posted on Sunday, May 12.
The good news is that the video looks amazing. It's clearly a teaser trailer, only about thirty seconds in length (showing the actual alleged PS4 for brief blips throughout) and focusing on the spellbound reactions of the young men, women, children and a fella who looks a little too much like James Franco for a video like this to really be Franco (but, you just never know; he's in everything, isn't he?).
The bad news is that the thing was posted a day ago (as of May 13) and has only received 301 hits at the time of this writing. You'd think something as monumental as this would have already blown up to innumerable levels of hit-ness. Maybe it's not gone anywhere because it's a big, stinking fake.
But then, well, there it is. The PS4 is there in the video. Or at least it seems like it. And the video doesn't just look really cool; it also looks really real. As one person on the YouTube channel (for a "Ken tucky"? At least the only other video he has up is another supposed Sony PS4 trailer) has posted, "Looks real to me. If it's fake, Sony really needs to hire these guys for their Ads."
Because the video shows us not only the logos for Sony and the PS4 but also is mentions E3 in its title (both in English and Japanese), perhaps this is actually a leak of a video meant for E3 itself, the event at which we all thought the PS4 would be revealed in June.
In addition to this, there's already another user on Reddit who posted an image of what he/she claims to be "the camera tracking thingy" or better known as the Kinect-like Dual Camera technology we'll be seeing integrated into the PS4.
Sony apparently told Kotaku a day after the video posting that it's not real, and that there seems to be a Compact Disc logo on the image of the PS4 -- with the PS4 not being Compact Disc compatible and all -- perhaps the trailer is fake. But, then again, as one poster on the Kotaku site points out, "Interesting they didn't just say they don't comment on speculation or rumors. Maybe at one time this was legit?"
What the heck is going on? Is the PS4 slowly being leaked out by Sony? Or is this all a big con job? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
