General Motors India launched the Chevrolet Enjoy on Thursday May 9, a vehicle the company hopes to market as a spacious but still stylish MPV.
"We believe this is the right product for India in one of the market's fastest-growing segments," GM India President and Managing Director, Lowell Paddock said. "As a new leader in the segment, we expect the Enjoy to be very popular. Its introduction is another sign of our commitment to make Chevrolet the most preferred vehicle brand in India."
As far as the engine goes, the Chevrolet Enjoy comes equipped with one of two SMARTECH-branded engines. One is a 1.3 liter four-cylinder diesel engine that delivers up to about 77.5 horsepower at 4,000 rpm with a maximum torque of 188 Nm at 1,750 rpm. The other is a 1.4-litre four-cylinder gasoline engine that can get up to about 104 horsepower at 6,000 rpm with a maximum torque of 131 Nm at 4,400 rpm.
While the gasoline versions vary in price between Rs. 549,000 and Rs. 699,000, the diesel models range from Rs. 669,000 to 799,000.
"The Enjoy model is cheaper between Rs.40,000 - Rs.70,000 as compared to competition. This apart the vehicle features gives a good value for money proposition to the buyers," Sastry Vempati, vice president (product planning) at General Motors India, said.
With the Chevrolet Enjoy, General Motors India appears to be attempting to take advantage of the growing utility vehicle portion of the auto market in India. It should be noted that the Enjoy was designed and engineered in China by Wuling. The vehicle is sold in China as the Wuling Sunshine.
