A Millenial film sequel to "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" is about to make a breakthrough. However, it won't star either Rooney Mara or Daniel Craig.
"The Girl in the Spider's Web", the sequel to 2011 thriller film "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo", is going to hit the theaters in 2018. Columbia Pictures announced the adaptation of the fourth installment just recently. The sequel will not include the original cast, Rooney Mara or Daniel Craig.
Director And Cast
Director Fede Alvarez of Don't Breathe will take on the new film, while Fincher remains as the executive producer. Spider's Web will also feature an all-new cast. Alvarez is reportedly discussing with possible actresses which may play the role of the next Lisbeth Salander, who was played by Mara back in 2011 film.
Screenplay
Spider's Web tracks a super hacker Salander and fact-finding journalist, Mikael Blomkvist as they find themselves at the center of a tangled web of spies, cyber criminals, and corrupt government officials.
The Girl in the Spider's Web is a continuation of the Millenium trilogy, and the only installment which is not written by the books' creator, Stieg Larsson, who died in 2004. Instead, David Lagercrantz continued the sequel. The book was published in 2015, with funding from Larsson's estate.
The other three novels, were filmed in Swedish, before Fincher made his version, Spider's Web will be the first Lisbeth Salander book to get an English-language adaption.
"In all contemporary literature, Lisbeth Salander is completely sui generis. Probably, one of the greatest female characters of all time," said Columbia President Sanford Panitch in a statement.
Contemporary punk insolence persona, unforgettable in every incarnation, and persuasive - these are the characteristics that the new actress needs to fill in. On the other hand, Rooney Mara said that she is open to play the role again. Mara was nominated for an Oscar for her role as Salander.
