Nissan Design Chief Shiro Nakamura To Retire

As the saying goes, it would be the end of an age, and this is true as Nissan's design chief is set to retire. Shiro Nakamura, the Nissan design chief, is to retire on March 31. He has been a veteran designer for some of Nissan's well-known vehicles.

Nakamura is known and respected as a designer in the automobile industry. He has also been responsible for bringing a new age to Nissan's vehicles. Some of the vehicles that have come out under him include the Nissan 350Z and 370Z sports cars. He has also worked for Suzuki for 25 years before joining Nissan.

Nakamura went to Nissan in 1999. In 2001 he has become senior vice-president for its design division. By 2006 he has become the division's chief creative officer. He has also been involved in Nissan's Infiniti division.

Alfonso Albaisa will be taking over Nakamura's post of senior vice-president of global design, while Karim Habib will be for Infiniti design on July 1. Habib is the former head of BMW's design division. The announcement has been made by Nissan as there are other senior management changes as well, according to Auto Blog.

Albaisa has said that he has big shoes to fill in the wake of Nakamura's retirement. Albaisa has been responsible for the design of the Nissan Rogue, as well as the Altima and Maxima. Habib meanwhile is a veteran designer for BMW. He will be reporting to Albaisa under Nissan, as Automotive News reports. He will be based at Nissan's office in Atsugi, Japan.

Habib has also been responsible for some of BMW's vehicles. Under him the BMW X1, BMW X2 and CSL Homage concept cars were designed. He has also worked under Daimler and has seen the development of the new Mercedes Benz C Class.

With Nakamura's departure, an age will end for Nissan. Nakamura has been known for his tailored silk suits as well as his manicured moustache. He is also a jazz bass player. Shiro Nakamura, the Nissan design chief is to retire soon. The 2017 Honda Civic Type R has also come out recently.
