Microsoft Surface RT And Surface Pro Get A Software Update

Microsoft unveiled its first line-up of tablets, Surface RT and Surface Pro, in June 2012 and released the Surface RT in Oct. 2012. The company's Surface Pro tablet was delayed and finally hit the U.S. and Canadian shelves in February this year and since then the tablets are getting regular updates and a latest software update has been rolled out on May 14.

The May firmware update for the tablets is the sixth Surface RT cumulative update and the third Surface Pro cumulative update.

The update for both the tablets packs a total of three different improvements, all of which are supposed to improve the overall performance of the devices.

The May update for Surface RT includes UEFI firmware updates that enhances Surface RT speaker volume and improves system stability. The update also brings a driver pack that improves performance and works with the updated UEFI firmware to enhance Surface RT speaker volume.

Lastly the firmware update also brings Trackpad Settings driver for Surface Type Cover to enable interaction with the Trackpad Settings app for Japanese customers.

The Surface Pro also gets the UEFI firmware and the Trackpad Settings driver in the May update. Additionally, the update also brings improvements to Wi-Fi connectivity and stability.

Since the launch of Surface Pro tablet many users have complained that they've had problems connecting to Wi-Fi with their devices. Both the previous updates brought Wi-Fi connectivity fixes and it seems that Microsoft wants to continue bringing firmware updates to resolve Wi-Fi and connectivity issues with the Surface Pro.
