James Gunn Talks About Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2 And A Possible Vol.3

It's no secret that the movie "Guardians of the Galaxy" was a smashing success. In North America alone, the film made a whopping $333.2 million and around $440.2 million worldwide, for a total of $773.4 million. This made Guardians of the Galaxy the third highest earning movie from Marvel. So it isn't too farfetched if sequels were made to further expand the franchise.

James Gunn On The Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2

In an interview with Complex, Director James Gunn answered a few questions regarding the latest instalment for "Guardians of the Galaxy" and its future. The director narrates how the story was developed and what he was thinking about in the coming future.

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Kurt Russel will be playing the role of Ego, so Gunn was asked about it. The director goes on to say that Ego is a living planet manifests itself in different ways and that he has been alone for a long time. In this long period, he has learned to control the molecules around him and has gained the ability to create avatars for himself, such as Kurt Russel. Gunn goes on to say that since Ego is a lonely character that he may have ventured off to find love, and eventually found Quill's mom.

When Gunn was asked how "Guardians of the Galaxy" Vol. 2 will fit in Phase Four, the director goes on to say that the story of Vol. 2 is purely about the guardians, and as such, there is no connection to the rest of the MCU. So wherever the story ends is what people would have to deal with. He goes on to say that at the end of the day, they are telling a longform story that has many moving parts and within those stories, there's a lot of freedom to do what they want.

According to Screenrant, James Gunn, in his interview with Complex, was also asked for any possible sequels beyond "Guardians of the Galaxy" Vol. 2. The director goes on to say that there will certainly be a Vol. 3. However, they are still trying to figure it out. Specifically, they are still trying to figure out what they are going to do and what role he is going to play. Although Gunn emphasizes that he needs to figure out where he wants to be and what he will do in the next three years of his life - whether it be making another Guardians movie or something different. He goes on to say that he's going to try and figure it out in the next couple of weeks.

James Gunn's involvement in "Guardians of the Galaxy" Vol. 3 is still unknown. However, whether he decides to stick with the franchise or move on, "Guardians of the Galaxy" Vol. 2 is still set to come out on May 5.
