Pokemon GO Update: Is Niantic Planning To Launch A New Event Soon?

Sadly, the mobile Pokémon installment will not be getting a St. Patrick's Day event despite the various rumors surrounding it. However, is Niantic planning to release a new Pokémon GO event in celebration of the upcoming origins movie in Japan?

No St. Patricks Day Event In Pokémon Go

The mobile monster catching game is no stranger when it comes to launching events based on holidays. Just recently, developer Niantic held a Valentine's Day celebration wherein players had the chance to catch cute pink Pokémon. However, it seems like Niantic is skipping out on a holiday this time around.

According to IBTimes, the developers had not launched any kind of event on St. Patrick's Day and will not seem to be releasing anything shortly afterward. Previous events have usually started a few days earlier so fans should not keep their hopes up for a possible drunk Pikachu. Even so, fans should not lose hope as Niantic might actually be releasing another event in celebration of something else, as per Express.

Possible Movie Tie-In Celebration With The Game?

In Sun And Moon, players in Japan will have the chance to get a special Pikachu wearing a signature trainer hat depending on the date they claim it. Nintendo has decided to release this monster because of the upcoming movie in July. While Niantic has not revealed anything for the mobile title, a promotional advert hints that the game might be getting something similar.

In line with this, Japanese cinema chain TOHO allegedly had an agreement with Niantic and the mobile monster catching game. Similarly, TOHO promotional videos feature Pikachu spinning a Pokestop with Pokeballs and Ash's cap spewing out. It is worth noting that the game had included cap-wearing Pikachus in the past.

For now, fans will just have to wait for further information regarding any potential events. Even if Niantic skips out on a Pokémon movie-themed event, there is also the possibility for the developers to create something for Easter. Fans can download Pokémon GO for free on the iOS App Store or Google Play.
