It seems like Shotguns currently lack the firepower they once had in Rainbow Six Siege. Now that the weapon lacks its original firepower, many players have opted to pick a different gun instead.
Shotguns in Rainbox Six Siege
According to PVP Live, Ubisoft recently removed the shotgun headshot multiplayer meaning that the gun will deal the same damage regardless if the bullets hit the head or body. However, since characters are usually sneaking around and hiding in the field, usually only their heads are visible in combat. Because of this, the shotgun cannot compete with the other weapon types in the game for its lack of firepower.
In line with this, the shotgun cannot "one-shot" an enemy in situations where other weapons could. Seeing as how the headshot multiplier was taken away, characters can only do about 60 percent of overall damage. However, it is worth noting that there was a good reason why developers removed the said feature since it was a bit unbalanced.
Then again, there could have been a different way for Ubisoft to tackle the problem. One possible solution was by simply reducing the damage from the headshot multiplier. Not only would it make players have to aim more precisely but also lower the instakills from the spread. Even so, it seems like the shotguns pale in comparison to the other weapons.
Technical Test Servers Is The Solution?
Nevertheless, there is still a chance for the developers to make some necessary changes in the near future. They have already released an official explanation on the game's official website regarding the Technical Test Servers. There, they will be able to test out new features without bringing it over to the main game yet. This also gives Ubisoft the chance to get a good feel on the proper parameters for any potential weapon updates.
However, they have yet to make any comments regarding future changes for the shotgun. Until then, fans will just have to wait for further updates. Those who are interested in Rainbox Six Siege can get a copy for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
