"Lucifer" season 2 is currently on a hiatus but promised to return in May to deliver the remainder of the installment's episodes. However, Fox decided to trim down the episode order of "Lucifer" season 2 from the initially planned 22 chapters now down to only 18. This means that upon the return of the devil on T.V. in May, fans will have four more episodes to see before the series goes on a hiatus before season 3.
Fans might be feeling worried about the future of "Lucifer" on Fox as the episodes of its second season have been truncated. The installment is supposed to deliver nine more stories of Lucifer Morningstar, but the sudden decision pushed the series to wrap up the season with the "The Good, the Bad, and the Crispy." While an episode cut usually serves as an indication of a show heading to its cancelation, "Lucifer" season 2 has a different case.
The co-showrunner of "Lucifer," Joe Henderson took to Twitter to explain the reasoning behind the situation. He also assured fans that "Lucifer" is standing on a good ground and will not get canceled in the coming months. He said that the show's production initially intended to go with only 18 episodes for season 2. However, when the installment started, it surprised the network by listing four more extra chapters.
"We designed this season to be an 18 episode arc because we originally were going to be 18 episodes. But then we got 4 more! Surprise!" Henderson wrote on Twitter to explain the episode cut. "So we decided to create four episodes that let us play around a bit. Dig deeper into the character stories, play with the format a bit, etc. We didn't know whether they'd air this season or next until now. Now we do. So bad news is you need to wait for them. And I know that s_cks."
Fans then should ease their worries as the four trimmed episodes actually serve as stand-alone adventures of Lucifer Morningstar. The current arc that "Lucifer" season 2 is following will actually give conclusions in the episode that will be aired on May 29. It is not yet confirmed though whether season 3 will open with one of the four trimmed episodes. Rest assured, they will be squeezed into the next installment.
On a brighter note, "Lucifer" season 3 might feature more than 22 episodes which Henderson also indicated on his tweet. He said that they might give 24 or 26 episodes on season 3. He also said that the current installment of "Lucifer" will deliver a "CRAZY awesome" finale with a shocking twist.
