New Tablet Boots Windows 8, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean And Ubuntu Linux

A new Linux tablet comes with a triple-boot feature that lets users choose to run one of three operating systems. Developed by Italy based manufacturer, Ekoore, the Python S3 can boot up in Ubuntu Linux 13.4, Android 4.2 or Windows 8.

The Python S3 was released Monday and comes equipped with a keyboard dock, making it an addition to the hybrid family of portable PCs being released on the market. The convertible hybrid device also reaches a broader range of potential customers who prefer specific operating systems.

Windows 8 is a good example of an operating system that many users tend to shy away from. Tablets running only Windows 8 may not appeal to all customers, which is why some manufacturers may offer a second tablet that runs Android instead.

For example, ASUS did this when it announced the introduction of two new hybrid tablets into the market. The ASUS SlateBook x2 runs on the Android operating system, while the ASUS Split x2 runs Windows 8.

Rather than making separate devices, Ekoore cleverly built-in three operating systems into one device. Customers may be more inclined to purchase a device that offers more than one operating system to have those additional options. Perhaps there are users who may want to use Windows 8 for work-related tasks and then Android for gaming entertainment. Or users may share their device with a family member or friend that has a preference for another operating system, and the Python S3 offers a solution.

When it comes to specs, the Python S3 aims to provide an enjoyable user experience. "In a tablet the quality and size of the display are the characteristics that most affects the user experience. Everything that you do with a tablet passes through the display. For this reason, the Python S3 we chose to use an 11.6-inch display well," Ekoore's website reads.

"This type of display has a resolution of no less than 1366 × 768, which ensures perfect integration with applications and especially with all operating systems," Ekoore said.

The triple-boot capable tablet runs on a 1.1GHz Intel Celeron Dual Core processor with up to 8GB of RAM. It features up to 128GB of built-in storage and comes with a microSD slot to add more. Applications developed for Ubuntu Linux 13.4 and Windows 8 are heavier so the chipset and memory of the Python S3 help everything to run smoothly.

"The Python series was born with the purpose of uniting in a single tablet multiple operating systems. The components of this device are the result of careful and accurate selection, to ensure perfect compatibility with all operating systems," Ekoore said.

The Python S3 also features Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth and GPS capability and runs on a 4800mAh battery. There's additional power built into the keyboard dock which packs a 3600mAh battery. Price is set at 599 Euros, $770 in the United States and is available here.
