Pokémon Red and Blue fans could recall the hardships of trying to catch a certain monster but ultimately knocking it out. However, players were actually catching Pokémon wrong, as it was much simpler back then.
Typical Pokémon Mechanics Most Fans Know
Even after all this time, fans are still learning more about their childhood games - specifically the first generation of Pokémon. While it might not have seemed like much before, the first two games were actually filled with various bugs like the infamous Missingno. On the other hand, the mechanics also played out much differently than they do now.
One of the more farfetched ideas was that players had a better chance of catching a monster if they hold down the B button after throwing the Pokeball. Meanwhile, another common belief that is actually a standard mechanic now is that a Pokémon's health should be reduced to the red zone before capturing it. Although, this led to unintended knock outs as it would be difficult trying to choose which move would not wipe out the opposing monster.
The Strange Pokémon Red And Blue Formula
However, PVP Live report that players did not actually need to drop the Pokémon health down to the red zone. In fact, leaving the monster at half health was more than enough to get the job done. With this in mind, fans did not need to exert so much effort in making sure the Pokémon did not faint.
Moreover, applying status effects even had a greater weight towards the capture rate, as per WWG. Weirdly enough, Great Balls were sometimes more effective than Ultra Balls. In spite of this, the succeeding games changed the formula to the standard layout that players know by heart.
Pokémon Red and Blue is the foundation that laid the groundwork for what the franchise is today. Despite its various glitches, the game captured the hearts of fans around the world. For those who want to experience the same journey again, they can get a digital copy via the Virtual Console for the 3DS.
