Overwatch game director, Jeff Kaplan, shares some insight on a story mode and why it will never happen. In spite of this, Blizzard has just released a new comic that explains more about the lore of the game.
Jeff Kaplan Talks About A Story Mode
Blizzard's first-person shooter has won over the hearts of fans for its unique characters and the importance it places on diversity. Despite only being a team shooter, the game contains a vast amount of lore found in other mediums like cinematic shorts and comics. In spite of this, fans have been requesting for something that would actually tie into the main game so they could play and experience the plot at the same time.
According to GeekReply, it seems like the game will still not be getting a campaign as Kaplan noted that including such a feature would be like making a whole new game in itself. There would need to be so much effort and it would certainly be a large-scale project. Nonetheless, he stated that having a story mode is a "fascinating idea."
A New Overwatch Comic Has Arrived
Even so, Blizzard is still prioritizing on releasing new stories that shed more light on the game's world and characters. Just recently, they have released yet another comic called Uprising , which reveals Tracer's first mission, as per Polygon. The story also features characters like Ana, McCree, Soldier76, Reaper, Ana, Mercy and Genji before the fall of their organization.
Those who are not so interested in the plot can still get something out of the story as it teases potential new skins in the coming event. The Genji and Tracer costumes have been a popular topic in the community while other fans have been fawning over Mercy's field costume. Aside from this, Widowmaker will be getting her own unique skin in the coming event as well.
Players will just have to make do with the various other mediums Blizzard plans on releasing for the plot. While there may be no chance for a story mode soon, fans can take up the fight in Overwatch on the PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
