Assassin's Creed 3, Far Cry 4 Creative Director Starts Own Studio After Leaving Ubisoft

Ubisoft creative director Alex Hutchinson, who worked on Assassin's Creed 3 and Far Cry 4, has announced that he is leaving the French publisher. In light of this, he has decided to start his own studio instead.

According to GameSpot, Hutchinson has decided to resign from his current position to expand his career towards a slightly more different direction. This director has worked on several high-profile titles during his time working with Ubisoft. In line with this, he claimed that he is extremely proud of all that he has achieved but is also looking forward to "build something new."

He is now starting a new company called "Typhoon Studios" with former Warner Bros. and EA producer Reid Schneider and "other wonderful people." The creative director stated that it will be some time before he releases some details about his upcoming project but also teased that he and his team are going to introduce a "brand new world."

Hutchinson garnered some attention back in 2012 because of his controversial statement towards AAA games. He mentioned that the pursuit towards those types of titles is "kind of a cancerous growth" as most developers merely focus on graphical fidelity. He believes that games should focus on educating and entertaining consumers or at least contain some form of artistry.

Because of focusing on the wrong pursuits, he stated that AAA blockbusters will be nothing more "than the last of the dinosaurs." Similarly, he also shared the same sentiment back in 2013 wherein he claimed that AAA games are dying out. GameIndustry.biz shares that he had worked on other games like Spore and The Sims 2 during his time as a lead designer in EA before joining Ubisoft.

For now, fans will just have to wait for further updates regarding the creative director and his future projects. It seems like he will no longer be working on AAA titles similar to his work in Ubisoft judging by his previous statements..
