Now that the Google I/O developer conference is over, we can go back to discussing what everyone really wants to talk about: the Motorola X Phone.
We've been hearing about this mysterious device for a while now, and though there's still virtually nothing to go by, there are already rumblings that each phone carrier will offer its own version of the Motorola X Phone whenever it's announced.
According to a .uni file that Droid-Life obtained from leaked Motorola USB drivers, a Motorola X Phone with the model number XT1060 may be coming soon to a Verizon store near you.
In addition to the XT1060, the leaked file also mentioned another model numbered XT1058 (also known as the XFON), which had been spotted previously in an FCC filing alongside AT&T logos. It's likely that the two devices will share similar specs and simply sold by different carriers as exclusives.
While we don't know much of anything about what these phones can do, when the XT1058 showed up on the FCC listing it did so with LTE capability, so chances are good that will also be true for the Verizon equivalent. The .uni file also lists the XT1060's processor as a Snapdragon 4 Pro dual-core variant, which, again, is very close to what is expected to appear in the XT1058.
The real question is: When will we actually see or hear about these phones in any official capacity? Ever since Google purchased Motorola, the assumption has been that the company will be putting out Google-branded devices as a way to bypass other hardware manufacturers who insist on layering over Android with their own interfaces. Many thought we'd see the so-called Motorola X Phone at Google I/O, but the conference came and went with no news.
Still, if these devices are to go on sale soon, as expected, Google should be taking the lid off them sooner rather than later. We'll let you know if there are any new developments.
