It has been rumored that the Apple will be adding a fingerprint reader to the Home button of the iPhone 5S as it begins to focus more on the enterprise market.
Samsung is never one to be outdone by Apple and has also started to get more serious about security. Samsung created its own KNOX security software as a way to make its smartphones more enterprise-ready with more security. Here's a great explanation of how it works. New evidence suggests that Samsung will also be adding fingerprint reading to future home screen buttons on its smartphones.
According to SAMMOBILE, the recently released Android 4.2.2 update for the Samsung Galaxy S3 we told you about, has some information Samsung probably forgot to erase from the firmware build. According to the site, a user went through the leaked Galaxy S3 Android 4.2.2 leaked firmware and came across the SecSettings.apk.SecSettingsresdrawable-hdpi folder and found a bunch of files showing a Samsung smartphone's home screen button having a finger printer reader as well as fingerprint icons.
It's unclear why Samsung would be adding this to the Galaxy S3 Android 4.2.2 firmware, unless the company is currently testing smartphones with this feature that are running Android 4.2.2. There have been tons of rumors about what to expect in the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. This would certainly be a nice addition to a phablet using a corporate network.
Apple and Samsung are beginning to realize that the next area to conquer is the IT world. Adding a feature like fingerprint reading makes BYOD (bring your own device) much more secure and relieves IT administrators. We'll have to wait and see when the feature will debut on iOS and Android, but at least Apple and Samsung are putting a major focus on security.
