Location-based social network Foursquare refined how users search for particular places, allowing them to be super specific. Foursquare rolled out the update Wednesday for users of iOs and Android devices.
"When you're looking for somewhere to eat, sometimes you know exactly what kind of place you want - cheap or fancy, sushi or Mexican, an old favorite, or a place you've never been. With today's update for iOS and Android, Foursquare helps you find exactly what you want, whatever that may be," explained the Foursquare team on its blog.
The new features bring new filters to the search experience. Under the Explore section, individuals can find specifically what they are craving. The searches can be filtered using "I've saved," "open now," "haven't been," "offering specials," "I haven't checked in," and "my friends have checked in."
Users can be as specific searching for "A burrito place I've been meaning to try (it's on my to-do list) in San Francisco, that's in The Mission and open right now," according to Foursquare. Users can search for specific restaurants in their locations and include specific items such as tagines, margaritas, or sushi in the search.
If Foursquares users do not want to go very specific, they can tap the "best nearby" or the "specials" to find the recommendations of the app or find the best deals possible.
With the new available options that enhance the process of local search, Foursquare edges closer to convincing people to use it instead of services like Yelp or even Google search. However, Foursquare still needs to impress users more to become the pack leader in local search.
The newest version of the Foursquare app is available for download from Google Play for Android users and the App Store for iOS users.
Back in April, Foursquare gave its iOS app a major facelift. It also introduced tweaks earlier in May allowing users to share best moments such as consecutive days in the gym. It also introduced more menu options and partnered with other companies to improve customer connection with local businesses.
The company was also able to raise $41 million in funding from new investments and convertible debt. Since its launch in 2009, Foursquare has around 30 million users today. So far, it has registered more than 3.5 billion check-ins and that number increases by the minute.
