Microsoft's next-gen gaming console, Xbox One, is set to hit the shelves in time for the holiday season on Nov. 30 sporting a £399 (approximately $600) price tag, if a listing by UK-based retailer Zavvi is to be believed.
When Microsoft announced the Xbox One on May 21, it only disclosed that the launch would be "later this year" and volunteered no details on price and exact date of release. Online retailer Zavvi, it seems, has accidentally revealed the price and exact release date for the Xbox One.
Zavvi is currently taking pre-orders for the gaming console and has priced it at £399.
The release date is given as Nov. 30; however, the site disclaims that "Release Date and Price yet to be confirmed by Microsoft."
The retailer also gives a pre-order promise and says "order this product with us today and if we reduce the price between taking your order and the release date, we will charge you the lower price!"
Prior to the official debut of Xbox One, Microsoft blogger Paul Thurrott opined that the console would cost $300 when purchased with a subscription to Xbox Live and $500 without the subscription.
While other retailers in the UK like GAME and Amazon are also taking pre-orders, they are yet to reveal a price tag for the Xbox One.
The Xbox One's arch rival, Sony's PlayStation 4, is also pegged to release later this year in time for the holiday season. Even though like Microsoft, Sony is yet to spill the beans on the official price, per an IBTimes report, "with its more game centred approach, the PS4 is likely to be cheaper." The PS4 will need to be cheaper than the Microsoft offering so that it can compete and stay afloat in the market.
With a tentative release date outed for the Xbox One, can Sony's PS4 be far behind?
