Tim Cook's secret about the Apple Watch earnings continues recently as he again kept mum about the exact smartwatch sales. It's the most notable new product the tech giant has created under his stewardship. Interestingly, he has never released revenue or unit sales of the wearable, not even during the company's quarterly earnings call with analysts on Tuesday.
However, this time, the tech giant CEO did give a hint of the sales, albeit a very vague one. He said that the company's wearable business, including the Apple Watch, Beats headphones, and the new Airpods, has now approached "the size of a Fortune 500 company". Although it's a pleasant and positive clue on the wearables sales, it still does not exactly give the figures on how well the smartwatch is doing.
Tim Cook has always been silent about the Apple watch earnings during these publicly-streamed conference call disclosing the financials. When he gave the hint, he was actually boasting that the sales of the smartwatch "doubled" from last year. However, this is when you lump the wearable earnings into the same revenue category as AirPods and Beats products.
Per Business Insider, there is a way to know how much earnings Apple watch made recently by analyzing Cook's statement. On the Fortune 500 list, Burlington Stores is No. 500 with just over $5.1 billion in annual revenue. Taking this into account, it could mean that the combined annual revenue of Apple's "wearable" products is at least $5 billion.
According to Mashable, Tim Cook later emphasized that over the past 12 months, these combined products could be even bigger than the $5 billion assumptions. However, exactly how much of that vague revenue figure is from sales of the Apple Watch is still a mystery. The tech giant CEO is still very careful not to spill the beans regarding his Apple watch earnings.
