Among the recently-released and upcoming 2017 flagship smartphones, the likes of Samsung's Galaxy S8, Apple's iPhone 8 and the OnePlus 5 have been hogging the news. One smartphone that's set to be released this year but has been under the radar is the Sony Xperia XZ Premium. That doesn't mean, however, that it won't be as good as the rest. As a matter of fact, recent leaks such as a benchmark test that surfaced hints that the next flagship from Sony can stand its ground against the best of them.
According to Phone Arena, Geekbench test results of the Sony Xperia XZ Premium are better than the rest of the field except for one - the Galaxy S8. The XZ Premium's single-core score was 1943 while it got 5824 in the multi-core category. So far, only the Galaxy S8 scored higher with 2008 and 6575. The Galaxy Plus, meanwhile, got 2006 and 6708.
The main reason why the Sony Xperia XZ Premium can duke it out against the other 2017 flagships is its processor. Like the rest, it will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835. Another of the Xperia XZ Premium's claim to fame is its amazing camera. As a matter of fact, its slow-motion feature is incomparable to anything in the market right now. As Tech Radar explained, the XZ Premium's Super Slo-Mo mode can record up to 960 frames per second. It starts off at 30fps but every tap on the slo-mo button slows the feature even more. There are no concrete details regarding the price and release date though rumors say the Sony Xperia XZ Premium will come out later this month or in June. Some have estimated that the upcoming smartphone will cost somewhere around $800 per unit.
