A new flagship smartphone from a relatively small Chinese startup is gearing up to be the Galaxy S8's only real rival. The OnePlus 5 clearly looks like a Galaxy S8 challenger on paper. OnePlus 5 is coming soon as recently OnePlus CEO Lau Pete confirmed that the company is already working closely on a phone that is going to be the flagship phone. New leaks surrounding the upcoming OnePlus 5 are growing in frequency, and it is shaping up to be one of the most impressive and powerful smartphones of 2017.
OnePlus 5: Hardware
The flagship OnePlus 5 is almost certain to come with Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 835 processor. This same chip is also being used in the global variants of the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. The Snapdragon is built using 10nm and is the said to be the most powerful processor from Qualcomm for this year.
OnePlus 5: Software And Storage
OnePlus 5 is believed to run the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, however, in China though, it will possibly use Hydrogen OS since the OnePlus 3T and the OnePlus 3 are both running on Android Nougat based Oxygen OS. OnePlus 5 is set to come with two storage variants - 64GB and 128GB internal storage. This is similar to how the OnePlus 3T was released.
OnePlus 5: Cameras
One thing that is confirmed is the coming of the dual cameras at the back for the next flagship killer. On the front, the reports claim it'll be packed with the 16-megapixel shooter that OnePlus 3T sports and a dual-camera setup on the rear to help users capture better photos in low light conditions as well as offer modes like Portrait and Blur.
Interestingly, a new leak claims that the upcoming flagship killer might be even more powerful than we thought. A supposed screenshot posted from a source shows specifications which include 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM, not 6GB of RAM as previously rumored.
This leak is obviously uncertain, however, it comes from a source that has posted some accurate leaks from the past. Moreover, the OnePlus 5 with even powerful specs than the Galaxy S8 is available for a practical rate and would surely be a compelling alternative to Samsung's latest devices. While pricing for the OnePlus 5 hasn't confirmed yet, last year's OnePlus 3T starts at just $439, most likely it will come around under $500.
