On Tuesday, Microsoft admitted that the firm is having a hard time fighting against Apple's iPhone and Android smartphones in the mobile market. That is why Microsoft plans to produce a new smartphone that will be called as the Surface Phone. The company will make it sure that the Surface Phone will stand out compared to other flagship smartphones.
Surface Phone Might Launch On May 23
On May 23, Microsoft will launch an event, which will “show the world what’s next” devices are to be featured. According to The Verge, the event will take place in Shanghai, but Microsoft didn’t specify either the exact location of the event. Also, the tech giant did not mention anything regarding the gadgets they will unveil or updates that will be presented.
Some clues to the new hardware are to be gleaned from social media. Microsoft’s vice president of devices Panos Panay and the creator of the Surface posted the announcement alongside the hashtag “#Surface.” Because of the word emphasized on the hashtag and Panay’s plan to attend the Shanghai event could mean that Microsoft is ready to launch Surface Pro 5. And another possible announcement will be Microsoft's Surface Phone.
Surface Phone: What We Know So Far
According to Trusted Review, the most likely candidate for the announcement on the May 23 event is the Surface Pro 5. However, since many fans are waiting for the Surface Phone as well, Microsoft may also surprise people with its big announcement. As of now, there is no official announcement by the Redmond-based company but one thing for sure is that they are making the upcoming mobile device, not just a regular smartphone.
Microsoft is currently working on phones, CEO Satya Nadella confirmed in an interview. In fact, the firm is planning to enhance the management, security, and Continuum of the Surface Phone which can also be a desktop. “So when you say ‘when will we make more phones’ I’m sure we’ll make more phones. But they may not look like phones that are there today,” Nadella added.
