Tesla has yet to release the highly anticipated Tesla Model 3, let alone kick off the production this year. However, Elon Musk came out with another surprise as he reveals that they are working on Tesla Model Y for a 2020 launch.
Elon Musk Announces Tesla Model Y To Debut In 2020
Elon Musk, CEO, and chairman of Tesla has revealed some of the company’s future plans. It has been disclosed that they are planning to produce another SUV in a few years. The Model Y has been slated to release in 2020.
He said that he believes that Tesla has to come up with an idea for Model Y in 2020 or at least some time in late 2019. He added that one million units of the model is quite likely or even more. It has been revealed that it is Tesla’s goal to achieve one-million production units every year.
Tesla Model Y Will Not Share Platform With Tesla Model 3
Musk elaborated that the Tesla Model Y will be smaller than the Model X and it will almost be the same price as the upcoming Tesla Model 3. However, he pointed out that they want to make the Tesla Model Y with a whole new different platform. This came as a surprise because of most automaker companies that use old parts and share platforms from existing models when making new ones so they can save up on the coofs on development and production.
Musk added that the planned Tesla Model Y is one way for them to push efficiency in the future. They are aiming to continue Tesla’s strategy when it comes to manufacturing cars and that is by making them simple. He has already disclosed that they have decided on making the Model Y to have a wiring harness of 100 meters only.
