George R.R. Martin Confirms Five 'Game Of Thrones' Spinoffs; Reveals New Details

HBO series “Game of Thrones” will be ending after two more seasons. However, fans will not be seeing the last of Westeros, probably even beyond it, as it has been confirmed that there will be more than one upcoming spinoffs. Author George R.R. Martin has confirmed this and even shared new details about it.

Five New ‘Game of Thrones’ Spinoffs Coming Soon

The author of the “A Song of Ice And Fire” novels, George R.R. Martin confirmed that there are five “Game of Thrones” spinoffs in the works. The upcoming spinoffs will reportedly be prequels, meaning they will be taking place before the events in the ongoing HBO series, “Game of Thrones”. However, Martin prefers these new shows to be called successor shows since it will be a different set of series with new stories.

He also revealed that he and the production initially planned on four successor shows since they had prepared four scripts. However, when they got together last week in Los Angeles, they ended up with one more script after adding a fifth writer, who they have yet to name, to the original team of four. All five new shows are slated to release on HBO as well.

George R.R. Martin Reveals What Not To Expect In New Shows

Martin did not hold back from the details because aside from revealing that there will be more “Game of Thrones” spinoffs, he revealed that it will be based on new stories. With the intention of making the new shows as prequels to the original television series, fans have already made notions of the possible stories they will produce. Though Martin did not tell what their planned storyboards are, he pointed out that they will not be touching two speculated stories.

Martin has debunked fans’ speculations by stating that they will not be doing a series based on “Tales of Dunk and Egg” or even about the infamous story of Robert’s Rebellion, which was the War of the Usurper by Targaryen loyalists. Martin explained that despite knowing that fans want a series about Robert’s Rebellion, it won’t happen because he will be revealing every important detail about the said war once he has completed the “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels.
