We have recently seen that BlackBerry announced its BlackBerry Messaging Service (BBM) will be available to Android and iOS customer soon. Now it seems that we may also soon see Apple apps on Android devices as Apple CEO, Tim Cook, said in an interview that Apple has no issue with porting an Apple app to Android.
Recently, at the AllThingsD D11 conference, Tim Cook talked about Google Glass, Apple's APIs, and the fabled iPhablet. But Cook also talked about possibility of Apple porting its apps to Android.
At the D11 conference a member of the audience asked Tim Cook about the possibility of adding support in iCloud for other platforms. Cook responded and said, "We have no religious issue with doing that. If we thought it made sense to do that we would do it."
Tim Cook was also asked by a member of audience about opening the iPhone up a bit further for developers who want to make more tweaks to the system.
Cook responded, "I think you will see us open up more in the future. But not to the degree that we put the customer at risk of having a bad experience."
Currently, Android developers can easily customize the home screen of their Android devices or change the keyboard to suit their personal requirement. However, it's not possible to tweak the home screen or the way the keyboard appears on iPhones. But possibility of tweaking some aspects of iDevices may also be possible.
The competition in the smartphone and tablet space is growing quite a lot and iDevices have been extremely popular with customers. However, many customers would still want to tweak their iDevices to a certain level.
Customers who have switched from iPhones to Android devices may still like certain apps used on iPhones. We will have to wait and see if Tim Cook allows portability of Apple apps to Android in the near future and, it will be interesting to see if Apple allows portability of its apps to Android devices, whether it will increase or decrease the sale of Apple iDevices.
