Fast, flashy, wild and fierce. These are just a few of the characteristics of the 2018 Lamborghini Huracan Performante. And as its name implies, its performance is something to die for.
The latest Lamborghini Huracan Performante, which costs around $203,000, is packed with a reworked 5.2-liter V10 engine. It also comes with a new seven speed dual-clutch gearbox along with a new chassis. The latter is made out of carbon which makes it a lot stiffer than what was used in the Gallardo, Lamborghini's most successful car in its history. According to TopGear, more than 14,000 Gallardos have been sold since 2003. The Huracan is being primed by Lambo as the Gallardo's successor.
According to Car And Driver, the standard Performante can go the quarter-mile in just 10.4 seconds for a speed of 135 mph. The high-performance version of the Performante, meanwhile, broke the record for production cars by finishing a lap at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in just six minutes and 52.1 seconds.
According to Lamborghini R&D head Maurizio Reggiani, the Huracan Performante achieved the feat thanks to its new aerodynamic design, reduced weight and increased power. The suspension was also improved to keep up with the car's speed and movements.
The brain thrusts behind the 2018 Lamborghini Huracan Performante successfully gave the car more power by lessening its weight by 90 pounds to decrease the pressure on the engine. They also gave the Performante new titanium intake valves, an exhaust system that flows more freely than before, and an air filter that's not too restrictive. All these work together to allow its engine to pump out 29 additional horsepower increasing the car's hp to 631. Alos, 30 lb-ft were added giving the Performante a total of 443 lb-ft of torque.
The Lamborghini Huracan Polizia, a relative of the Performante, made waves early this year after it was added into the Italian Highway Patrol as part of the country's effort to make the police look cool while serving and protecting the community. While the 2018 Lamborghini Huracan Performante is not meant for chasing bad guys, it does have the power to leave other cars behind.
