Taiwan-based Acer allegedly has a new Windows 8 tablet, given the soubriquet Bulgari, in the wings. The Acer "Bulgari" will reportedly sport a 11.6-inch Retinal-like display and come with Intel's Haswell processor in tow.
Acer will apparently introduce the new tablet in June per Greek website TechBlog.
According to "exclusive information" the site received "Acer is preparing a tablet with Windows 8 operating system and processor next generation Intel Core i3 Haswell to be officially launched by Intel in the next month (translated)."
The tablet will have a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and an 11.6-inch LCD IPS display, as well as a 8-megapixel primary camera. The Acer Bulgari will also have 4GB of RAM, 64GB of on-board memory and a memory card slot for additional storage. What's more, the tablet would also pack in Intel's new Haswell processor.
Intel's Haswell processor is slated to hit the market soon and will offer consumers with a new experience. A strong likelihood exists that device manufacturers will start updating their product line-up to accommodate the new chip. The Windows 8 platform too will get a boost as Microsoft is reportedly working on a refresh of the Surface RT. The Redmond giant is also believed to be working on a smaller version of the Surface RT.
While screen resolutions higher than 1080p are quote common for Android and iOS tablets, Windows 8-powered tablets seem to be lagging behind. However, judging by this new information, Acer could be doing its bit to put Windows tablets in the same league with its impending Bulgari.
If the rumored Acer Bulgari packs in a Retina-like display (and launches in June as hinted), then Apple would have a new rival for its impending iPad 5.
At this juncture everything is speculative, including the name Acer Bulgari which is just a code name. The report does not disclose any pricing details for the impending Windows 8 tablet from Acer, but if it has anything close to the Retina display as suggested then the Bulgari could cost a pretty penny.
