The OnePlus 5 and the Huawei Honor 9 have a lot in common. Both are affordable flagship phones with premium features that will give major tech players such as Samsung and Apple a run for their money.
One feature present in both the OnePlus 5 and Huawei Honor 9 is the dual camera system. This is, in fact, one of the main draws of the OnePlus 5. Reviews of the OnePlus 5 shooter, however, say that the actual photos taken by the flagship killer failed to impress. Despite this, the feature is still better than most smartphones.
The dual camera system of the Huawei Honor 9 includes a 12-megapixel RGB lens and a 20-megapixel monochrome lens. The OnePlus 5 comes with a 16-megapixel standard shooter to go with a 20-megapixel telephoto lens.
OnePlus 5 also has a better front-facing camera with 16 megapixels compared to only 8 megapixels for Honor 9's front shooter. Furthermore, the OnePlus 5 takes better videos. As CNET reported, the OnePlus 5 has 4K video capture while the Honor 9 tops out at 2160p.
The OnePlus5 has had its share of controversy thanks to accusations of copying the design of the iPhone 7. Whether this was intentional or not, the OnePlus 5 looks good. The Huawei Honor 9, meanwhile, sports a unique look courtesy of its glass back made up of 15 layers of various materials as well as a fancy looking metal frame. The Honor 9 comes in Midnight Black, Glacier Gray, or Sapphire Blue.
The Huawei Honor 9 comes with a 5.15-inch LCD display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. The OnePlus 5 offers the same resolution on its slightly larger 5.5-inch AMOLED screen. According to Tech Radar, the difference in pixels per inch, 428 to 401, respectively, is negligible though the OnePlus 5 gets a better score for its true blacks and dark tones.
The OnePlus 5 also has a better processor with its Snapdragon 835 as opposed to the Honor 9's Huawei Kirin 960. The Honor 9 only has up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage while the OnePlus 5 has up to 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB of memory.
The Huawei Honor 9 will retail for around $450 while the OnePlus 5 sells for at least $480. The latter's price jacks up to $540 for the higher end version.
