Sony that has launched an array of tech device at IFA 2017 also confirmed models of their Xperia lineup which would receive the latest Android 8.0 Oreo. Sony has unveiled three new smartphones at the Berlin event during IFA including the Xperia XZ1, Xperia XZ Compact, and XA1 Plus.
The news of the Android 8.0 Oreo update was reported by GSM Arena who went on to mention that most of the Sony's 2016 smartphone would be receiving the update. Sony, however, does not provide a time frame on which everyone can expect the Android 8.0 Oreo update or when each model would get it. The list has smartphones from Sony is ranging from mid-range to premium handsets and thus it can be said that Sony is treating its customer right with Android Oreo delight
The smartphones who will be receiving the Android 8.0 Oreo update include - Xperia X, Xperia X Performance, Xperia XZ, Xperia X Compact, Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZs, Xperia XA1, Xperia XA1 Ultra, Xperia Touch as well as the new Xperia XA1 Plus, as reported by Firstpost. Recently launched Android 8.0 Oreo has lots of improvements in it, including a revamped notification panel which has a new layout, colors and features including snoozing them.
As mentioned earlier, there is no word on timing of update yet, nor any information on what Android 8.0 Oreo features that Sony is going to utilize and make available to its end users. Some initial hands-on experience with the Sony Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact units, which are already running Android 8.0 hints at a pretty familiar, clean skin design and app loadout. That, however, might be subject to change.
However, a number of OEMs have promised an Android 8.0 Oreo update for their existing smartphones including OnePlus and Samsung. But right now only Google's Pixel ranges along with the earlier Nexus 5X and 6P have received the Android 8.0 Oreo update.
