Samsung released its Android flagship, the Galaxy S4, in April this year and now the handset is getting a software update which will bring some improvements to the handset.
Samsung announced that the Galaxy S4 will come in both 3G and 4G LTE-ready versions. Depending on your region, the latest Galaxy S4 sports a 1.6GHz Exynos octa-core CPU or a 1.9GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600.
A SamMobile report said, "Currently, the new software update is only available for the Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505) but our insider has confirmed that the new software update will be coming to the Exynos-powered Galaxy S4 (GT-I9500), as well."
The software update for the Samsung Galaxy S4 is expected to resolve some issues related to the storage of the device. The 16GB version of the handset has only 9.15GB of user accessible memory.
The storage issue received a lot of criticism and a Samsung spokesman had said to CNET, "We appreciate this issue being raised and we will improve our communications. We are reviewing the possibility to secure more memory space through further software optimization. Samsung is committed to listening to our customers and responding to their needs as part of our innovation process."
The latest software update addresses the storage issue and now users have the functionality to move apps to the handset's SD card and increasing the available storage to 9.23GB.
The software update also brings along new camera firmware, smart pause toggle, semi-transparent status bar, new icons in settings and secure boot status.
The update also fixes the smearing issue that shows a purple effect while scrolling, and has increased legibility in display.
The software update is 365.67 MB in size and you can update your device via Samsung KIES or via Firmware-Over-The-Air (FOTA). Currently, the update is available only in Germany but users in other countries should soon start get the update.
