Samsung Galaxy S2 started getting Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean software update in Canada, Europe and parts of Asia from Jan. 2013 onward. Now, Samsung Galaxy S2 on AT&T has also started receiving the much-awaited Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean software update.
Currently, all eyes are on the recently-launched Samsung Galaxy S4; however, many smartphone owners would still be using the Galaxy S2, the company's flagship handset for 2011. The Galaxy S2 originally came running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and over the last couple of years the handset has received a few software updates. Currently, the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 is running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS).
Many users on AT&T forum and XDA Developers forum have reported that they have received the software update on their Samsung Galaxy S2 via Kies. However, we don't know when the software update will be rolled out over-the-air (OTA).
A user said on AT&T forum, "Just received the 4.1.2 via kies and upgraded without any issues. Model I777."
AT&T is not the first carrier to roll out Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean to their version of Galaxy S2. In the U.S., other carriers like Sprint and T-Mobile have already rolled out Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean to their version of Galaxy S2. At the same time, Samsung Galaxy S2 owners on Verizon and US Cellular are still waiting for their carrier to release Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update.
Even though AT&T did not release an official change log for the software update, Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean is expected to bring a host of new features to the Samsung Galaxy S2 including Google Now and improved Browser and Calendar. Project Butter will bring a fluid and smooth user interface to the handset. The software update will also bring better widgets and multitasking and more to the Galaxy S2.
