Nokia will be holding a press event on July 11, where it is expected to announce its 41-megapixel PureView Nokia EOS smartphone. A new report claims that the EOS is in fact a codename for the smartphone and when its announced, it will officially be called Nokia Lumia 1020.
In the last couple of months, Nokia has released a few flagship smartphones. The Lumia 928 is Verizon's flagship Lumia smartphone, while the Lumia 925 is T-Mobile's and is also being sold internationally. The Nokia EOS is expected to the company's third flagship Windows Phone 8 smartphone in months and will be making its way to AT&T in the U.S.
The very reliable evleaks has revealed that when the EOS is announced, it will drop its codename and will officially be called the Nokia Lumia 1020. The information was posted to the source's Twitter account, which has been spot on in the past when it comes to revealing accurate information regarding upcoming devices.
The Nokia Lumia 1020's main attraction will be its 41-megapixel camera since it's the perfect way to make the smartphone stand out from its rivals, by having such a powerful camera on a smartphone. The Lumia 1020 is expected to feature a 4.5-inch 768 x 1280 AMOLED ClearBlack Display, run Windows Phone 8, be powered by a 1.2GHz dual core processor, include 32GB of internal storage, 1GB of RAM, a 41-megapixel PureView camera with Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, and Xenon flash, 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/c/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and GPS. Current rumors claim it will come in an all-aluminum body, and will include a non-removable 2,000 mAh battery.
Nokia will be targeting this smartphone to consumers who also want high-end camera features. Since Microsoft gives Nokia more leeway over its Lumia smartphones than it does to its other Windows Phone 8 licensees, Nokia is also rumored to have built its own special camera application for the Lumia 1020. The application is believed to offer more advanced camera settings and features.
However, we'll have to wait until Nokia's July 11 event to see if the rumored specs are true and if the EOS will officially be called the Nokia Lumia 1020.
