Second-gen Nexus 7 specs and release date leaked by ASUS employee

Rumors surrounding the second-gen Nexus 7 tablet have been swirling online for sometime now and the latest leak reveals the specs of the ASUS-made tablet. A screenshot of a supposed conversation between an ASUS representative and a customer has revealed the specs and features of the yet-to-be-announced second-gen Nexus 7 tablet.

According to an Android Authority report, "Screenshots of an alleged chat between a customer and an Asus representative seem to reveal the specs and features of the announced device but also launch details."

The screenshot was published on Google+ and discloses that the ASUS rep has revealed that the impending tablet, codenamed ASUS K009, will release by end July. The leaked specs are allegedly not confirmed yet, but "some basic specifications."

Upon being asked by the customer from where the employee received the specs, the rep responded with "This is Internal Specs, but it is not available to the Public as yet because I know you are eager so I just forwarded it to you."

According to the leaked chat transcript, the second-gen Nexus 7 will feature a 7-inch LED with 1980 x 1200 pixels resolution. The tablet will house a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 CPU/ Snapdragon APQ8064 CPU, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The device will also feature a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing one.

Moreover, a powerful 4,000 mAh battery will fuel the tablet and it will likely come pre-loaded with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Connectivity-wise, the purported ASUS K009 will have support for Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, LTE, WCDMA and GSM.

Previous reports have pointed to a July debut for the next iteration of the nexus 7 tablet and recently, we reported that the device was spotted at the FCC, going by the model number K009.

Whether the conversation between the customer and the ASUS rep is genuine or fabricated is not known at this juncture and should be taken with a pinch of salt. It is strange for an employee to reveal solicited information about an unannounced product. Moreover, the ASUS rep mentions a Q2 release and clarifies it's July, which shows that he/she is ignorant about the quarter cycle and raises doubts over the genuineness of the chat.
