Microsoft Store to offer $79 Nokia Camera Grip for free with Lumia 1020 purchase

The $79 Camera Grip accessory for the Nokia Lumia 1020 is available for free for those who order the 41-megapixel smartphone through the Microsoft Store.

Nokia just announced its latest flagship smartphone, the Lumia 1020. The new Windows Phone 8 (WP8) handset sets itself apart from other smartphones by including a whopping 41-megapixel camera. The company also announced the Nokia Camera Grip at the Lumia 1020's launch.

The Camera Grip serves many functions and works by clipping to the back of the Lumia 1020 so that users can easily operate the camera with one hand. The accessory also includes a two-stage shutter key to allow manual picture taking and also features a universal tripod mount on the bottom. Nokia has also built in an extended battery designed to give the Lumia 1020 an estimated 35 percent more battery life, according to the company.

All of those features come with a price, and Nokia offers the Camera Grip accessory for $79. Microsoft, however, has a more enticing offer. Those who plan on purchasing the Lumia 1020 with the optional Camera Grip may want to go through the Microsoft Store and get the accessory for free. The Microsoft Store will start taking pre-orders for the Lumia 1020 on July 16. Customers who purchase the phone from Microsoft will get a free Nokia Camera Grip in a choice of black, white, or yellow. Interested buyers will have to sign a 2-year contract with AT&T to qualify for the offer and Microsoft notes that a limited quantity of the accessory is available for this promotion.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 will be an AT&T exclusive. The smartphone features a 4.5-inch ClearBlack AMOLED PureMotion HD+ display with a 1280 x 768 resolution and a pixel density of 334 pixels per inch (ppi) and it includes sunlight readability enhancements and wide viewing angles. The handset runs Windows Phone 8 with the Nokia Lumia Amber update pre-installed, it is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, includes 32GB of internal storage with 2GB of RAM, a 41-megapixel Pureview rear camera with Carl Zeiss optics, optical image stabilization (OIS), Xenon flash and full HD 1080p video recording. A 1.2-megapixel front facing shooter, a 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and a non-removable 2,000mAh battery are also on board.
