HTC has confirmed that Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is now being rolled out for its HTC One in the UK and the Netherlands.
HTC released its flagship handset, the HTC One, in April this year, packed with the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system. While that software version is fairly recent, it's not the absolute latest and customers were eagerly waiting for an upgrade to Android 4.2.
"The Jellybean 4.2.2 update for the HTC One started rolling out in the UK from today," HTC UK posted on its Facebook page on Monday, July 15. The company also confirmed the Netherlands update on its Dutch Facebook page.
The HTC One is undoubtedly one of the most popular Android smartphones around and the handset has sold over five million units within the first 30 days of release. In mid-June, some select international models of the HTC One received the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update and now the rollout is expanding. HTC One customers in the UK have already started to download the latest firmware on their handsets.
"Rocking it now, Woo-hoo! I No more hideous on - screen black menu bar & quick settings at last...Well done HTC, that's 2 major updates in 3 months. best handset on the planet & customer care is has improved immensely," one happy HTC One owner commented on Facebook.
The Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean software update will bring along enhancements, as well as some bug fixes to the handset. The software update will add "Photo Sphere" panorama photos, Daydream screensavers and BlinkFeed will now support streaming of content from Instagram.
The upgrade will also bring lockscreen improvements such as widget support, the ability to swipe directly to the camera and more.
Following the update, HTC One users will find support for Quick Setting tiles. Battery percentage has also been added, as well as improvements to the camera.
The closest competitor to the HTC One is the Samsung Galaxy S4, which comes running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean straight out of the box. With the new update, the HTC One will now be on the same line with the Galaxy S4.
To check if you have received the software update on your handset tap on Settings > About > Software Updates > Check now.
Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is yet to hit HTC One in the U.S., but it shouldn't take too long.
