Verizon holding July 23 event to launch new family of DROID smartphones

Verizon has sent out invites for a press event it will be holding on July 23, where the carrier is expected to announce the DROID ULTRA, DROID MAXX and DROID Mini.

Motorola is getting ready to launch its highly anticipated Moto X. The smartphone is the first device that it has worked with Google on since the company acquired it. We also know that Motorola is planning on updating its DROID series of smartphones for Verizon, and it appears that we'll be seeing new DROIDs sooner than expected. The carrier has just sent out press invites for an event it will be holding on July 23 where it will "unveil the next generation of one of their most popular family of devices."

That family of devices will include the DROID ULTRA, DROID MAXX, and DROID Mini. The smartphones were recently leaked and will pick up where the RAZR line left off. The DROID UTRA will reportedly feature a 5-inch full HD 1080p display, will be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, include 16GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM, and include a 10-megapixel rear camera.

The DROID MAXX looks very similar to the ULTRA and is expected to use the same 5-inch HD display, quad-core processor, and 10-megapixel camera. The smartphone will likely include a larger battery to justify its MAXX name. We've seen Motorola do this in the past with the DROID RAZR MAXX. The smartphone featured the same specs of the RAZR but included a larger battery that gave the device significantly longer battery life. The DROID MAXX will reportedly see even longer battery life with advertising material stating it will have 48 hours of worry-free battery life.

There haven't been any leaks on the DROID Mini, but as the name implies and leaked images have shown, it will be a smaller version of the new flagship smartphones.

The three smartphones are expected to go on sale on August 8, but we'll have to wait until July 23 to hear the official details from Verizon.
