Exploding Kittens fans, wait no more!
The popular card game, Exploding Kittens, is coming to Netflix in both TV show and game version. In a "first-of-its-kind" deal with the streaming platform, the game will be released in May 2022 while the adult animated comedy series will premiere in 2023.
TV Series To Feature Voice Talents of Popular Actors
The upcoming television series, which will be titled "Exploding Kittens," will feature the voice talents of Tom Ellis ("Lucifer"), Abraham Lim ("The Boys"), Lucy Liu ("Elementary"), Ally Maki ("Toy Story 4"), Mark Proksch ("What We Do In The Shadows") and Sasheer Zamata ("Woke").
The showrunners will be Shane Kosakowski and Matthew Inman. Mike Judge, Greg Daniels, Dustin Davis, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Elan Lee will be the show's executive producers.
In the animated series, God and the devil are in the bodies of "chonky" house cats bringing the eternal conflict between heaven and hell to Earth.
Mike Moon, Netflix's head of adult animation, said in a statement that the co-development of a game and animated series breaks new ground for Netflix.
"And we couldn't think of a better game to build a universe around than Exploding Kittens, one of the most inventive, iconic and original games of this century. Netflix is the perfect place to explore this growing franchise and we are so fortunate to be working with this incredible team." Moon added.
"Netflix is the only service that could bring Exploding Kittens to life in both a series and a game," showrunner Inman said in a statement.
Netflix' "first-of-its-kind deal" comes as the streaming giant likes to invest in the burgeoning video gaming sector embraced by younger audiences.
Exploding Kitten Mobile Version Comes Similar With the Card Game
Meanwhile, the Exploding Kittens mobile game will feel very similar to the card game.
It tasks players with avoiding the titular Exploding Kitten. It is basically a mobile version of the card game that will feature two new cards exclusive to Netflix version, Radar and Flip Flop.
Radar will reveal the position of the next Exploding Kitten in the deck and Flip Flop will reverse the order the cards are drawn.
Netflix said, "Future cards and game mechanics will be themed around the animated series so friends and families can play with their favorite characters and bring the show to life."
In addition, the game that will feature single and multiplayer modes will be available to all Netflix members "without additional fees or in-app purchases."
Currently, Exploding Kittens is available as a physical card game. It is also available as a mobile game on iOS and Android and a game on Nintendo Switch.
In 2015, Chief Executive Elan Lee, Matthew Inman, the company's chief creative officer and creator of the comics website the Oatmeal, and Shane Small, the game's co-creator launched Exploding Kittens on fundraising site Kickstarter.
According to Exploding Kittens, the Kickstarter campaign raised $8.7 million in 30 days,.
At present, Exploding Kittens, which costs about $20, has been translated into 30 languages.
