Hulu Users Have Reported Widespread Issues With the Streaming Service

As reported by Variety, Hulu had widespread technical issues for more than two hours on Thursday, April 21, with thousands of customers across the U.S. reporting issues with streaming content and accessing the Hulu app.

Hulu Users Has Reported Widespread Issues With the Streaming Service

Wegotthiscovered.com said that despite being widespread across the country, the outages appear to have been amplified in Boston, New York, and Atlanta.

What Are The Issues Encountered by Hulu Users?

The upsurge in user reports began at 8 p.m. ET, with more than 57,000 complaints filed by 8:21 p.m. ET on the monitoring site Downdetector.

Variety said that Hulu's issues, according to user reports, were occurring on both the on-demand and live TV sides of the service across numerous devices. The main page for hulu.com displayed an error message to logged-in users, while Hulu app users reported that they also saw an error message when they tried to stream a title. An error message also appeared on some connected TV platforms.

As of the end of 2021, Hulu had 45.3 million overall subscribers, with 4.3 million of those on the live TV tiers.

When Does Hulu Fix the Issues?

Variety cited an email by a representative of Disney Streaming Services at around 10:45 p.m. ET, that the company has rectified the technical issue that interrupted Hulu's service temporarily. It should be noted that Hulu is being operated and managed by Disney Streaming Services.

Disney+ Also Experienced Issues This Week

Disney Streaming Services also operates and manages Disney+, in addition to Hulu.

As previously reported, Disney+ experienced a problem recently which resulted in the loss of episodes for a number of popular shows.

"The problems were first reported by a blog What's On Disney+, which reported that some members of Disney Plus Facebook group noticed that some episodes of their favorite titles were missing," the report read.

What's On Disney+ said that the following are some of the shows that have been missing episodes:

  • "Ultimate Spider-Man"

  • "Agent Carter"

  • "Hannah Montana"

  • "Ducktales"

  • "Once Upon A Time"

  • "X-Men And The Wolverine"

  • "Lab Rats Elite Force"

  • "Marvel Rising"

  • "Big City Greens"

  • "The Proud Family"

  • "Austin & Ally"

  • "Big Hero 6"

  • "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse"

  • "The Owl House"

  • "The Wizards Of Waverley Place"

  • "Bizaardvark"

How to Fix Hulu's Freezing Problem

The Droid Guy listed ways Hulu users can possibly fix the streaming service's "freezing" problem. It should be noted that the report has been published before the latest issue on the platform.

  • Check your internet connection

  • Clear the browser cache

  • Try to enable JavaScript and Cookies

  • Enable Location Services

If you're using your mobile device to watch Hulu, you might want to try this troubleshooting method:

  • Force close the Hulu app

  • Restart your mobile device and router

  • Check your internet connection

  • Uninstall then reinstall the Hulu app
